    Life of a Marine Biologist

    All Day Session (8:30 am - 4:00 pm)

    Does your teen love marine biology and yearn to know what it’s like to be a scientist?  Join the Mystic Aquarium and New England Science & Sailing (NESS) for this exciting program that allows for a unique experience in the best aspects of a career in marine biology. Participants will start their day at the Mystic Aquarium for engaging hands-on programming, then will take the bus (with an instructor) to NESS where they will explore Little Narragansett Bay by kayak, snorkel, foot and boat and perform field research.  This program is designed to give teens a real taste of what it’s like to be a marine biologist.

    Morning drop-off is at Mystic Aquarium. All students take the SEAT bus with an instructor to NESS. Afternoon pick-up is at NESS in Stonington. All registration will be through Mystic Aquarium.

    $475/week for Aquarium members

    $500/week for non-members

    Morning drop-off is at Mystic Aquarium and afternoon pick-up will be at NESS.  Registration will be handled by the Mystic Aquarium at 860-572-5955.     

  • Kayak Fishing (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: fishing & kayaking    $230/week

    This week is open to experienced kayakers and anglers who are ready to take their skills to the next level!  Some of last year’s catches included porgies, snapper blues, pilot fish, trigger fish and even a remora! You never know exactly what will happen in this exciting class where we get to explore more closely some of the best inshore fishing spots. We will be teaching the basics of fishing from a kayak, tying knots, baiting hooks, cleaning gear, and practicing fishing safety. We practice catch and release only.  Students should bring their own fishing rods and tackle ready for use.  Some NESS rods are available and bait will be provided, please call to inquire.

    It’s hard to believe we are about to wrap up our first year of the NESS SEA AmeriCorps program! Almost one year ago we welcomed our first class of 7 NESS SEA AmeriCorps members to embark on a year of service to the students of New London. As I reflect on this incredible year, there are many notable achievements that stand out.
