    Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Geocaching!  Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS!  Join a NESS scientist as we learn about navigation on land and sea, make an item to let other geocachers know we’ve discovered a particular treasure, and go geocaching in three different locations! 
     
  • Week 8 (Aug. 10-14)

    Environmental Engineers (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Use Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in this engaging adventure learning program. Use concepts generated from the field of Biomimicry to make new product designs, generate ideas and plans to solve local marine issues, build a plankton net, and figure out more ways to utilize wind, hydro, and solar energy. Explore local habitats while testing and gathering design ideas for your prototypes. Includes: engineering, microscopes, boat trips, and snorkel adventures.

  • Week 9 (Aug. 17-21)

    Choose Your Own Research (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Pick a topic, investigate your hypothesis, carry out your experiment, and make a conclusion through the formation of your own research project. Utilize NESS gear including microscopes, plankton nets, aquariums, lab equipment, and water quality testing gear to carry out your project.   Work closely with one of our marine scientists and present your findings to your peers. Includes: marine research, boat trips, and snorkel adventures. </div>

  • NESS Geocaching (grades K-4)

    Mondays 4:00 – 5:30 pm ~ March 9, 16, 23 & 30

    Cost: $80/series     Minimum 6 students

    Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Geocaching!  Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS!  Join a NESS scientist as we learn about navigation on land and sea, make an item to let other geocachers know we’ve discovered a particular treasure, and go geocaching in four different locations!   Remember to dress warmly as we will be outside!

  • Squid Fishing

    Wednesday, October 28    5:30-7:30 pm   

    Minimum: 6 participants               Cost: $25/participant

    The temperatures have dropped and the squid are in. Come see what it's all about in this 2 hour guided program with NESS pro staff fisherman Caleb. Experience this exciting and unusual fishery. Learn the proper techniques for attracting, hooking and landing squid. With luck, see the bizarre color changes, flailing tentacles and ability to disappear right before your eyes. Bring a white t-shirt and get inked! This activity does not last long so make a reservation now!   

     
  • Astronomy (Grades 1-4)

    Mondays 4:00-5:30        November 2, 9 & 16

    Enrollment: minimum 7 students

    Cost: $60

    Go beyond Earth’s atmosphere to discover a world of constellations, comets, planets, and stars. Use experiments to decipher meteor impact, hear and make your own stories about constellations and stars, create your own alien that could live on one of the planets in our solar system, and look into the sky to identify some winter constellations. Dress warmly for a portion of outside class time.     

     
  • Jr. NESS Geocaching (Ages 4-6)

    Wednesdays 12:00-1:30        November 4, 11 & 18

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $60

    Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Geocaching! Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS! Use charts, compasses, navigation, and GPS to track your path. Make an item to let other geocachers know we’ve discovered a particular treasure and go geocaching in different locations! Remember to dress warmly as we will be outside!
