    The Complex World of Animal Relationships Animals compete, eat, and benefit through all kinds of interspecies interactions and relationships.  Take a look into the strange and complex world of competition, predation, mutualism, and parasitism.  Pose questions in ecology and look into the advantages and disadvantages of some remarkable symbiotic relationships.

    Ocean Films Venture into the outdoors to film andphotograph animals, ecosystems, and adventure. Work in teams to make a creative and fun short film dedicated to ocean awareness and appreciation. Use your videos to share with other NESS students and look to enter your videos into the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival.

    Ocean Films Venture into the outdoors to film and photograph animals, ecosystems, and adventure. Work in teams to make a creative and fun short film dedicated to ocean awareness and appreciation. Use your videos to share with other NESS students and look to enter your videos into the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival.  

    Ocean Physics Investigate how the science of physics affect the oceans.  Engineer ways to prevent coastal erosion with our wave tank and Augmented Reality Sandbox, harness the wind with our unique land sailors, and discover how animals use the physics of sound to communicate vast distances.

     
  • Kayak Geocaching (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: geocaching & kayaking    $220/week

    Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Kayak Geocaching! Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS. Use charts, compasses, navigation, and GPS to track your kayak path. Make an item to let other geocachers know we’ve discovered a particular treasure, participate in the first ever NESS geocache kayak trail and go geocaching in different locations around Stonington and beyond! No previous kayaking experience is necessary, but an interest in the ocean, snorkeling, and kayaking is a must for this adventure week.

  • Week 8 (Aug. 10-14)

    Vehicles to Adventures (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Hovercrafts, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, ROV’s and even submarines. Become familiar with all kinds of water craft as you drive a remote operated vehicle (ROV) underwater, test the speed of a kayak, experiment with the stability of a stand up paddle board, build a raft within a team, and conduct experiments to tell you more about each marine craft! Includes: ROV’s, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, boat trips, and snorkel adventures.

    $215/week

     
  • SUP Dawgs (grades 5-8)

    Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 pm       May 20, 27, June 3 & 10

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $90/series    

    Includes: stand up paddle boards and wetsuit.

    Let this class introduce you to an incredible sport that will keep you fit, focused and balanced! Give your body the boost of energy it needs by refreshing your senses in and on the ocean. Explore Stonington Harbor on stand up paddle boards and play games all while enjoying an active adventure on the water. No previous experience is needed, but an interest in the ocean and being active is a must.
