    • New Hartley 12 sailboats, a great learning platform for older beginners. Perfect for kids who have outgrown (or are too big for) Optis but aren’t quite ready (or big enough) for the more high performance Club 420.
    • Expanded adult sailing offerings in our growing fleet of Sonar sloops.
    • New classes for youth and adults & families at our New London Ocean Beach location.
    • New weekly themes for all of our marine science classes.
    • Expanded adventure sports offerings for kids as young as 9-years-old.
    • Expanded full day marine science and adventure sports classes for the 11 and up crowd.
    • New two-week options for Opti Learn to Sail classes.
    • Expanded offerings for our popular Taste of Optis and Second Taste of Optis classes.

  • Hartley's and Keelboats (ages 9-12)

     
    Mon – Friday  9:00 am – 12:00 pm (am session); $285/week

    Intermediate to Advanced Level -NEW COMBO CLASS!!!! Maximum variety is on offer with this class that will surely test your skills on the water in a super fun setting. One day you may be sailing solo in a Hartley, the next you may be part of a team going for a long sail on one of our keelboats. This class is designed for students who have learned the fundamentals of sailing and want to continue learning new skills and trying new experiences. Our Sonars and Hartley 12s will be the primary boats with NESS's J-105 rounding out the fleet for this class.
    *$228/week, NESS will be closed Tuesday, July 4
     
  • Week 7 (Aug. 3-7)

    Salty Dogs (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Leave the landlubbers behind and become a salty dog as you submerse yourself in the realm of boats and buoyancy. Perform experiments based on the forces of floating, design your own model boat, and become Captain of your own vessel by getting a taste of sailing safely in an Opti and paddling a kayak! Sing some sea shanties, learn about life on sailing ships from our past, and even hear about dogs that went to sea with their sailor owners. Includes: 1 boat trip in the harbor aboard the Dodson’s Launch.

  • Week 4 (July 13-17)

    Coastal Crusaders (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Become a coastal crusader as you explore the coastline by kayaking, boogie boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, and identifying snorkel spots through local chart navigation readings. Analyze coastline changes, sift through ways to prevent beach erosion, and discover coastal ecosystems. Take the first exciting step in learning to surf by practicing your stance, balance, paddle technique, duck dives, and get a taste of riding waves. Includes: taste of surfing, kayaking, boogie boarding, stand up paddle boarding, boat trips, and snorkel adventures.

  • Growing all around us (Ages 6-9)

    July 27 – July 31,    9:00 am – Noon        $190/week

    Includes:  kayaking, boogie boarding, and snorkel adventures

    From new animal babies, to larval plankton, to the seeds of plants; growth is happening all around us.   During this program you’ll get to learn about the life of animals and plants, grow your own plants from seeds, as well as looking at some of the amazing changes some animals have while they mature from a baby to a juvenile to an adult.  Incorporate animal growth to art, exploration, and learning.

    Come on an exciting adventure with NESS!  Learn the basics, or refine your skills by boogie boarding, surfing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding!  Discover the origins of these fun sports and all the gear needed to participate, explore the ecology of the environments we play in, develop team building skills through fun games, apply what you know about the ecology to helping our natural environments and capture it all on camera!
