    Penguins, Walruses, Polar Bears, Whales, and many more animals love the winter!  Do you?  Discover some of the amazing adaptations animals have to survive in freezing conditions.  Simulate penguins holding eggs, experiment with the color of polar bear fur and skin, investigate the warmth of blubber, and learn more about the animals who thrive in the ice.

    NEW COMBO CLASS!!!! New this year we have taken our Hartley Adventures class and added 420s into the mix. Not only will students be able to blast around in the Hartley but they will also be introduced to spinnakers and the trapeze with the addition of 420s. Get ready for some high performance fun as you take to Fishers Island Sound learning new skills and building upon concepts already learned.

    Dive deep into many local marine ecosystems including crowded benthic communities, tide pools, and dynamic coastlines.  Try your luck at fishing and crabbing as you interpret environmental signs to find the best places to catch these wild animals!  Get an exciting introduction to stand up paddle boarding and test your navigation skills with geocaching.  Includes: fishing, geocaching, stand up paddle boarding, boat trip, & snorkeling

  • Week 2 (July 3-7)

    Blue Water Adventures (All Day, 9 am - 4 pm)

    Be immersed in sailing and science as you adventure into the ocean blue!  Join us on PFlash, the NESS 35 foot J-105, as our teaching platform to build teamwork and learn the basics of being crew on an offshore boat.  Anchor at different sites for marine science field excursions by foot and snorkel!  Bring a lunch and eat with friends during this full day experience.  Includes: full day programming, sailing, marine science, & snorkel adventures.

  • Week 7 (August 7-11)

    The Breeze & The Seas (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Learn all about the breeze and the seas as you take command of a vessel with a safe taste of sailing, kayaking, and even a windsurf simulation.  Discover how breezes occur, experiment with the power of wind by creating a wind powered vessel, and find out what types of plants and animals rely on strong winds and high seas.  Take a short voyage on the Dodson’s Launch to experience the conditions in the harbor.  Includes: 1 boat trip in the harbor aboard the Dodson’s Launch.

    One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, You Fish (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Investigate fish shapes, colors, and behaviors using underwater cameras, microscopes, and snorkel gear.  Fish print on your own T-shirt, perform a fish dissection, get into the field by powerboat to explore fish populations, and try your hand at fishing using rod & reel, dip nets, seine nets, and cast nets.  Includes: fishing, fish dissection, boat trips, & snorkel adventures

    Aquarium Surf & Turf (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Design, create, and develop your own marine and terrestrial habitats while investigating the science behind aquariums and terrariums.  As a team, decide what organisms will reside in your tank, venture to the surf zone and go onto the turf to catch your species, record animal behavior, and be imaginative in creating habitats.  Test dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, and temperature levels as you care for your mini-ecosystems.  Includes: aquarium & terrarium care, boat trips, & snorkel adventures
