  • Animal Predators (Ages 6–9)

    June 29 - July 3, Aug 17 - 21, 9:00 am - Noon  $190/week

    Includes: kayaking, trap building and snorkel adventures

    Living in the ocean can be pretty hard at times. There are no supermarkets, so how do the fish get their food? Imagine being able to catch and shell a crab with no arms, being able to take your stomach out of your mouth, or moving your arms as fast as a bullet, or being able to change color so quickly that almost nothing can detect you.  Learn about and be amazed by the techniques and features of all kinds of well adapted ocean predators!
     
  • Prehistoric Ocean Animals & Geological Secrets! (Ages 6-9)

    Can you imagine what it was like on Earth millions of years ago?  Strange animals lurked in the same areas we live now.   Learn about some animals from our history as well as looking into some present animals that were around during our prehistoric past.  We’ll also dig deep to see if we can discover anything left in geological time!

Almost one year ago we welcomed our first class of 7 NESS SEA AmeriCorps members to embark on a year of service to the students of New London.   • Marine Animal Ornament Art (Grades 1-4)

    Mondays 4:00-5:30        November 30; December 7 & 14

    Enrollment: minimum 7 students

    Cost: $60

    The holidays are here, but do you miss summer? Bring summer indoors with ornaments and decorations made with shells and other marine artifacts found on the beach. Discover what animal each shell came from, how sea glass is formed and how to tie decorative knots. You may bring your own artifacts or you can use some from our collection.     

     
  • Ocean Adventures Guided Kayak Tours

    Includes: Kayak Guide, Kayak Equipment and Paddling Instruction

    There is no better way to experience a day out on the water than by kayak! Even if you’ve never picked up a paddle, join us on one of our Ocean Adventures Guided Kayak Tours at Ocean Beach Park in New London and see what kayaking is all about. Whether you are a birding enthusiast, an athletic adventurer or a marine biologist, our kayak guides will maximize your experience. Using sit-on top ocean kayaks that are exceptionally stable and perfect for paddlers of all abilities, glide across the shallows, step out to check out some of the local critters and cruise with the tidal currents . Each trip is approximately two hours and includes step-by-step instruction and information on local sites by NESS ACA certified kayak guides.   $30/adult    $20/children under 12.
    • Trips depart twice daily (10:00 AM & 2:00 PM) Monday –Friday from June through August
    • Advanced registration is preferred but WALK-INS are WELCOME!
    • Arrive 15 minutes prior to paddling departure times
    • All paddlers must fill out a NESS Participation Agreement
    • Children 17 and under must have parental consent
    • Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult
    • Max of 8 paddlers per trip
