  • Hot Wheels Physics (All Ages)

    10:00 am-12:00 pm

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $20

    Explore basic concepts of physics by manipulating Hot Wheels® cars and ramps!  Explore the difference between potential energy and kinetic energy by modifying the height of ramps, experiment ways to increase the car’s speed to go through multiple loops, and create a mini collision course to investigate changes in energy. 

     
  • Week 5 (July 20-24)

    Swell Squad (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Join the Swell Squad as you harness the energy of the ocean swell while traversing the local waters on water craft including stand up paddle boards, kayaks, boogie boards and even surfboards. Relate adventures to estuary science, hydrodynamics, swell formation, and animal habitats. Includes: a taste of surfing, boogie boarding, stand up paddle boarding, kayaks, boat trips, and snorkel adventures.

    $215/week

     
  • Environmental Science Badge

    3 classes/2 hours per class          $90/participant

    Minimum 6 participant                  Please call for availability, 860-535-9362.

    Includes: 1 boat trip

    Join a NESS Environmental Science Badge Counselor and meet all the requirements to obtain your Fishing Badge. Some activities include:
      • Compare and contrast two different habitats by observing local organisms that thrive in different environments.
      • Conduct experiments on the effects of water pollution, land pollution and air pollution on animal life.
      • Investigate renewable energy and biodegradable debris.
     
  • Cadettes: Breathe: Aware Badge / Trees Badge

    4 classes/1½ hours per class   $80/student

    Minimum 6 students; 2 chaperones

    Earn your tree badge while also completing the “Aware” portion of the Cadette Breather Journey.  Identify air quality issues, keep an “Air Journal”, explore wind power by designing and creating an alternative energy vehicle, identify species of local trees, participate in a logging debate and discover why trees are so important to the air we breathe.
     
  • Gallup Hill Puff Car Competition (Grades K-6)

    Friday, October 9th    1:15-4:15 pm

    Enrollment: minimum 10 students

    Cost: $40

    Build and race your own alternative energy vehicle that is powered by you! Compare and graph how your vehicle does compared to other students and finally race your vehicle in the first ever Gallup Hill Puff Car Grand Prix.  Registration due: Oct. 9th, please contact Gallup Hill to register.

    Tuesdays; September 8, 15, 22 & 29    October 6 & 13

    7:30-8:30 am

    Minimum: 6 participants               Cost: $15/class

    Be introduced to an incredible sport that will keep you fit, focused and balanced! Give your body the boost of energy it needs by refreshing your senses and having fun on the ocean.  Explore Stonington Harbor on stand up paddle boards, while stretching, relaxing and testing your core balance.  No previous experience is needed, but an interest in the ocean and being active is a must!
