    Intermediate Level Get a jump start to the sailing season and join us for a week long green fleet class. Students will work on boat handling, starting, and tactical situations to get those racing juices flowing.

    Pre-requisites: none if 8 or older; If 7, Taste of Optis, or by Instructor recommendation
    Beginner Level - There is no better place to start learning the basics of sailing.   Come have fun on the water while learning the language of sailing, rigging, sail handling and steering in a stable boat designed for kids.   Students will be encouraged to sail solo when ready and increase their on-the-water confidence.   This is a four week program that is a true learn to sail class.
    *Full Season is Step 1 + Step 2 + Step 3 (8 total weeks)

    Sound Bounders (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Adventure into Fishers Island Sound and some connecting waterways.  Try fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and boogie boarding.  Understand the journey of a single drop of water as it travels within a watershed bound for the sound.  Go green and devise some ways to ensure a sound future for our environment.  Includes: fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, boogie boarding, at least 1 boat trip, & snorkeling

    Join the NESS pack and discover the importance of schools, herds, colonies, flocks, and packs.  Investigate why animals live, hunt, travel, and rely on groups and communities for survival.  Explore some of the methods animals use to communicate in such close quarters through simulations and field explorations.  Includes: at least 1 boat trip & snorkeling

    A Fish Tale (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Come and learn to be a fish detective.  Investigate the appearances and habits of all kinds of fish including the strange, the unusual, the brightly colored, and even the fish that glow.  Examine the mysterious lives of sharks, rays, and eels.  Perform a fish dissection and use microscopes to look at a variety of fish parts and scales.

    Invention Convention (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Create new inventions while gaining inspiration from nature and technology.  Work in teams to design and test a remote operated vehicle (ROV) designed for a specific job, enterprise new product ideas using the field of biomimicry, analyze global solutions to apply to local issues, and experiment with green technology.  Includes: engineering, microscopes, boat trips, & snorkel adventures

    Forces of Nature (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    Be amazed by the physics of nature while using experiments, simulations, and the outdoors to delve into concepts of friction, forces of motion, Newton’s Laws, and gravity.  Test different objects for strength, flexibility, and absorbency and apply them to real world application.  Explore how plants and animals are affected by these forces.  Use outdoor adventure to feel forces while boogie boarding, stand-up paddle, and through a taste of surfing boarding.  Includes: boogie boarding, taste of surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, boat trips, & snorkel adventures

    Magic of Metamorphosis (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Come and explore the biological process of metamorphosis. How does this happen, when does it happen and who does it happen to? Delve into the natural world of insects, plankton, crustaceans, and other land and sea animals.

    Get out into nature as you learn the basics of outdoor photography and videography.  Use iPads and iMovie to make a short movie, employ Go Pros and cameras to get field footage, and venture into the wild to gain inspiration.  Premier your movie and photos to the friendly NESS film critics!  Includes: basic videography & photography, boat trips, & snorkel adventures
