    Ocean Films Venture into the outdoors to film and photograph animals, ecosystems, and adventure. Work in teams to make a creative and fun short film dedicated to ocean awareness and appreciation. Use your videos to share with other NESS students and look to enter your videos into the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival.  

    Ocean Physics Investigate how the science of physics affect the oceans.  Engineer ways to prevent coastal erosion with our wave tank and Augmented Reality Sandbox, harness the wind with our unique land sailors, and discover how animals use the physics of sound to communicate vast distances.

  • Family Sailing Wednesdays (Ages 16+)

    9:30-11:00 am or 1:30-3:00 pm

    Is your child participating in an adventure at NESS? This is a great chance to experience what makes us so great! Pick the time that overlaps with the camp that your child is in, and join an experienced instructor for an adventure in one of our 23' keelboats. This relaxed adventure provides the opportunity to steer and participate in basic sailing maneuvers.  A perfect taste of what sailing is all about.  If you are interested in one-on-one instruction, check out our private lessons, and build confidence on the water.

    $20 per person for 2 people, $60 for up to 4.

  • Puzzle Geocache (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: Geocaching, kayaking, boat rides and land based activities        $250/week

    Take your navigation and Geocaching skills up a notch. Use charts, compasses, navigation and GPS to find and learn about different types of caches including puzzle, multi and virtual caches.  Explore how to solve ciphers, codes and riddles. Discover some local caches, and then decide as a group where to place a NESS official puzzle geocache

  • Body, Balance & Mind (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: stand up paddleboarding, surfing, and boat rides    $280/week

    Be introduced to two incredible sports that will keep you fit, focused and balanced! Give your body the boost of energy it needs by refreshing your senses and having fun on the ocean.  Explore Stonington Harbor on stand up paddle boards, while stretching, relaxing and testing your core balance. Ride the crystal clear waves of Rhode Island during surf class. No previous experience is needed, but an interest in the ocean and being active is a most.  This class is perfect for new or returning students.

  • Kayak Geocaching (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: geocaching & kayaking    $220/week

    Learn basic navigation to participate in the fun hobby of Kayak Geocaching! Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt using a device that has GPS. Use charts, compasses, navigation, and GPS to track your kayak path. Make an item to let other geocachers know we’ve discovered a particular treasure, participate in the first ever NESS geocache kayak trail and go geocaching in different locations around Stonington and beyond! No previous kayaking experience is necessary, but an interest in the ocean, snorkeling, and kayaking is a must for this adventure week.

  • Wiki Wiki Makai (Ages 11-17)

    Includes: boogie boarding, surfing, stand up paddleboarding & boat rides    $280/week

    Waves, waves and more waves! If you love being in the water and riding on waves, then this week is for YOU! We will be testing our water riding skills out on as many different types of boats & boards that we can. Boogie boarding, surfing and stand up paddle boarding.  This is the ultimate water adventure, testing your core, balance and fitness. No experience is necessary as long as you are comfortable on and in the water. We will teach you the basics! Come have fun in the sun while learning valuable ocean safety skills.

  • Adventure Clashes (Ages 9-12)  

    Includes: boogie boarding, fishing, kayaking, boat trips, and snorkel adventures    $280/week

    Take part in this outdoor adventure clashes as you and your teammates choose from activities like kayaking, boogie boarding, windsurfing, standup paddle boarding, snorkeling, adventure field excursions, fishing and more! Learn the basics of choosing your adventure based on weather, wind, waves, navigation and local history while exploring Long Island Sound.

    NESS has recently added seven new programs to their adult sailing line-up. Courses are for ages 16 and older and are offered Saturdays through Thursdays.
