    Watershed Wonders Discover our amazing local watersheds and figure out where our water flows and goes. Venture on a watershed kayak journey, analyze water quality and the health of the watershed, build experimental models, discover if Davy Jones’ Locker is real, and invent new ways of keeping our local waterways clean. View a variety of residential and migratory animals that reside in our local watershed.  

    Ecosystems Excursion Get outside, explore diverse ecosystems, and even try your luck with fishing.  Compare habitats, use an underwater live feed camera, utilize microscopes, and make observations of the organisms you find.  Find out why certain animals thrive in specific areas and feed some of the amazing animals that live in the NESS aquariums.

  • Adult Advanced (Ages 16+)

    Enrollment is limited to 5 adults per class.

    New to NESS this summer! Are you looking to get more time on the water, under the guidance of an experienced instructor? Our advanced class is a good next step for those who have taken intermediate class as well as more advanced sailors looking to continue to build your skillset as a sailor. Dive deeper into how sailing works and the ins and outs of cruising Fisher's Island Sound, all while continuing to refine your boathandling skills. We will work on docking, anchoring, spinnaker basics, and sailing succesfully in all conditions. US Sailing's Keelboat Basics Manual available for an additional $20.

  • Pine Point Winter Break (Grades 5-8) March 13-17

    Aquaculture & Aquariums (AM Session, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm)   Cost: $180    Minimum 6 students

    ROV Construction (PM Session, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) Cost: $180    Minimum 6 students

    Aquaculture & Aquariums Use the NESS aquariums to create your own thriving freshwater aquaculture systems.  Pick a current NESS species to work with and create optimal living conditions for growth, breeding possibilities, and health.  Experiment with structures, substrates, and other variables.  Look into animal behavior and perform water quality tests.

    ROV Construction Design, create, build, and test a SeaPerch ROV.  Work as a team through the entire process from soldering circuits, water proofing electronics, experimenting with ROV shape and design, testing buoyancy, and perfecting ROV performance in the ocean through a series of fun and challenging scenarios.  Take one boat trip to test your design in the Sound.
