  • Rate Your Plate (Ages 9-13)

    Fridays 12:00-2:30 pm       February 5, 12 & 26

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $100

    Let’s face it, seafood is delicious, but the path your seafood takes from water to waiter has varying impacts on the world’s ocean.  Experiment and simulate different fishing techniques to determine the best means of avoiding bycatch, overfishing, and habitat destruction.  Learn about aquaculture and propose and design your own idea to the NESS Fishery Judges.

  • Pine Point Spring Break (Grades K-4) March 20-24

    Aquaponics Adventures (AM Session, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm)   Cost: $180    Minimum 6 students

    STEAM Challenges 2 (PM Session, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) Cost: $180    Minimum 6 students

    Aquaponics Adventures Jump into the world of aquaponics while learning about plant and animal relationships.  Help weigh and measure fish, use microscopes to look at plant root development, and engineer new structures for optimal plant growth.  In teams set up your own mini aquaponics system complete with animals, plants, and algae. 

    STEAM Challenges 2 Use science, technology, engineering, art, and math to undertake these new exciting STEAM challenges.  Measure success through angles when creating a contraption to withstand the simulated pitch and roll of a boat, unlock the buoyancy mystery of Davy Jones’ Locker, test the strength of bridge designs, and use your imagination and creativity to make a Rube Goldberg invention.

    Watershed Wonders Discover our amazing local watersheds and figure out where our water flows and goes.  Investigate flooding and erosion on towns using an augmented reality sandbox, analyze water quality and the health of the watershed, build experimental models, discover if Davy Jones’ Locker is real, and invent new ways of keeping our local waterways clean. View a variety of residential and migratory animals that reside in our local watershed.

    Pre-requisites: Opti Learn to Sail or Second Taste of Opti

    Beginner Level - This two week class is based on the final two weeks of the Opti Learn to Sail process.   Designed to be a refresher course for kids who have taken Opti learn to Sail but who are not yet ready for Green fleet.   This class also offers a great option for students who have taken the Second Taste of Optis program and who want a two week program to perfect all they have learned.


     
  • Fall Fishing (grades 1-4)

    Thursdays 4:00-5:30 pm         September 3, 10, 17 & 24

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $100

    Fall is a great time of year for fishing.  Learn the basics of fishing, tying knots, baiting hooks and cleaning your gear.  Practice fishing safely from our docks and venture into some of the other local secret spots.  Discover local fisheries, and learn about the gear they use, the boats they travel on and the length of time they spend navigating the open seas.  We will practice catch and release only.    

     
  • SUP Dawgs (grades 3-6)

    Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30 pm       May 4, 11, 18 & 25

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $100   

    Includes: stand up paddle boards and wetsuit.

    Let this class introduce you to an incredible sport that will keep you fit, focused and balanced! Give your body the boost of energy it needs by refreshing your senses in and on the ocean. Explore Stonington Harbor on stand up paddle boards and play games all while enjoying an active adventure on the water. No previous experience is needed, but an interest in the ocean and being active is a must.
