  • Sunset Cruises

    Seasonal: May 15 - Aug 15    Friday and Saturday's, 6:00-8:00 pm.

    Come aboard one of our larger keelboats for a beautiful and relaxing sunset cruise around Stonington Harbor and Fishers Island Sound!  One of our instructors will sail you around in a 23' Sonar for a wonderful evening tour.  Bring your own beverage of choice and let us do the work while you relax and enjoy the view!  For larger parties (up to 6), our 35' J-105 may be available on select dates.  Please call the NESS office for more information and reservations: (860) 535-9362.
     
  • Taste of Sailing (ages 6-9)

    Tuesdays 4:00-5:30 pm           Sept 8, 15, 22 &29

    Enrollment: minimum 4 students

    Cost: $135/series        

    It's never too early to get on the water!  The Taste of Sailing class is a class designed for kids 6-9 and does not require sailing experience.  Meant to be a fun group experience, it enables kids to get a taste of sailing over the course of four classes.  Students will become familiar with water safety on the docks and in an Optimist Trainer or Sonar Sailboat, while learning what it feels like to be on the water.  Students will be introduced to the different parts of the boat, knots, rigging, and steering.  One step at a time, this is an important one to take in a nurturing environment with friendly and patient instructors.
     
  • US Sailing Level 1 Practice Course (Ages 15+)

    One-day course, from 9:00 am-2:00 pm        Cost: $150

    April 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 & 19

    Two-day course, 4:00 pm-6:30 pm         Cost: $150

    May 16 & 23, May 18 & 25

    Designed by our Level 1 Instructor Trainer this class is designed to help your teenager gain powerboat confidence before attending their US Sailing Level 1 course. Topics covered will be both on-the-water and classroom topics that will need to be known to pass the powerboating section of the Level 1 class. This class does not guarantee you will pass the powerboating section of the level one however our instructor will direct you on what to practice and focus on before attending your level 1.
     
  • Week 2 (June 29-July 3)

    Dynamic Earth (PM Session, 1 pm - 4 pm)

    The earth is constantly changing and moving. Most of the time we don’t even notice unless there is a big change! Discover how coastlines and islands were formed, experiment with how water moves through sediment, and explore the science of hurricanes and how they affect the coastline. Go kayaking, snorkeling, and boogie boarding to become one with our dynamic Earth! Includes: boogie boarding, kayaking, boat trips and snorkel adventures.

  • Power Boating (ages 12-18)

    Thursdays 2:00-3:30pm          May 7, 14, 21 & 28

    Enrollment: minimum 4 students

    Cost: $140

    Join a NESS USCG licensed captain and learn the basics of safe boating. Designed for young boaters who are interested in gaining knowledge and confidence in coastal navigation. Students will take to the water as they learn basic powerboat maneuvers in one of our 17 ft. whalers, including docking and anchoring.

    Includes: class room modules & boat driving practice

  • Afterschool Opti's (Ages 8-12)

    Fridays 4:00-5:30pm           May 15, 22, 29 & June 5, 12

    Enrollment: minimum 4 students

    Cost: $115/series       

    Afterschool Opti’s builds upon the foundation of sailing skills that they learned in a previous class.  Take the next step to reinforce parts of the boat, the sailing lingo, or overall comfort on the water. This class uses the Optimist dinghy as the primary boat and students are guided to sail on their own from day one.

  • Stars & Space (Ages 4-6)

    Wednesdays 12:00-1:30        December 2, 9 & 16

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $60

    Blast off into learning about our solar system, space, stars, and constellations. Use experiments to investigate meteor impact, use Stellarium to explore current planet and star locations, and create your own alien that could live on one of the planets in our solar system.     

     
  • Ladies Night (Ages 16+)

    $20/night or $150/season

    Thursdays; 5:30-7:00 pm; June 23-Sept 1

    It's summer time and Thursday nights are ladies night. Come and enjoy some girl time while sailing! Our Sonars are a great way to gain more confidence sailing around Fishers Island Sound with one of our instructors. Join the group right next door for drinks after.
