    Watersport Adventure Enjoy a taste of kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding, and take the first exciting step in learning to surf by practicing your stance, balance, paddle technique, and duck dives safely in the Harbor.  All programs will be done safely in the harbor or on land. * Come prepared to get wet!

    Marble Maze Craze Learn the basics of physics with the fun challenge.  Working in teams and using force, friction and gravity create a maze through which a marble can travel.  Compete with other teams to see which marble moves the slowest and get extra points for creativity and team work!

     
  • Green Fleet and Beyond Racing (Ages 8-13)

    Fridays 4:00-6:00 pm           Sept 4, 11, 18, 25; Oct 2 & 9 

    Enrollment: minimum 3 students

    Cost: $185/series        

    This racing class is designed to keep those go-getters on the water this fall.  Sailors must have Green Fleet experience as a minimum and will focus on racing techniques.  Students will work on boathandling, sailing a course, starting, and rules, to name just a few.
     
  • Squid Fishing

    Wednesday, October 28    5:30-7:30 pm   

    Minimum: 6 participants               Cost: $25/participant

    The temperatures have dropped and the squid are in. Come see what it's all about in this 2 hour guided program with NESS pro staff fisherman Caleb. Experience this exciting and unusual fishery. Learn the proper techniques for attracting, hooking and landing squid. With luck, see the bizarre color changes, flailing tentacles and ability to disappear right before your eyes. Bring a white t-shirt and get inked! This activity does not last long so make a reservation now!   

     
  • Inside a Micro World (Grades 5-8)

    Mondays 3:15-4:45        November 2, 9 & 16

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $60

    Delve into the world of the very tiny to explore new technologies and organisms! Use microscopes to identify the numerous types of plankton, experiment with nanos and discover how this technology affects our daily lives, and create and present your own nanotechnology using the science of biomimicry.     

     
  • SUP-Yak

    Saturdays & Sundays; October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18

    1:00-3:00 pm

    Minimum: 6 participants               Cost: $25/participant

    Learn how to safely stand up paddle board and kayaking with your family!  With the help of a NESS instructor learn the basic paddle stokes and techniques to enjoy both water sports.  After the basics paddle your way around the warm waters of Little Narragansett Bay and challenge yourself with new skills, play SUP & Yak games, and enjoy the company of your family while exploring our local waters.  Class includes use of a life jacket, wetsuit, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards.   

     
  • STEAM Challenges (Grades 5-8)

    Wednesdays 3:15-4:45        December 2, 9 & 16

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $60

    Use science, technology, engineering, art, and math to undertake these exciting STEAM challenges. Learn about the field of Biomimicry as you develop a product based on nature to design and market to the NESS judges, take the marble maze craze challenge, build a model catapult, investigate wind power using iPads, and experiment with wind turbine shapes.     

     
  • Migrations and Hibernations (Grades 1-4)

    Fridays 4:00-5:30        December 4, 11 & 18

    Enrollment: minimum 6 students

    Cost: $60

    Winter is cold, but animals have many techniques to stay warm and live in these harsh conditions. Learn about survival strategies, hibernation, and migration. Investigate the adaptations of animals like polar bears and penguins that thrive around the frozen seas of the Arctic and the Antarctic.

  • Coastal Crusaders (Ages 10-13)

    July 18-22, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm  $190/week

    Includes: taste of surfing, kayaking, boogie boarding, stand up paddleboarding, snorkel adventures, playing in the salt pond & the ocean   

    Become a coastal crusader as you explore the coastline by kayaking, boogie boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, and identifying snorkel spots through local chart navigation readings.  Analyze coastline changes, sift through ways to prevent beach erosion, and discover coastal ecosystems.  Take the first exciting step in learning to surf by practicing your stance, balance, paddle technique, duck dives, and get a taste of riding waves.  

     
  • Afterschool Opti Racing (Ages 8-13)

    Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm ~ September 3 -October 8

    Cost: $155/series   Minimum 4 students   

    Eager to get back on the water? The Opti Afterschool Racing class will focus on racing techniques, boathandling, boat speed and specific boat setup. Speed and proper technique will be a central part of the daily topics. If you want to get a jump start on the summer season then this is the perfect opportunity for you.
