  • Opti Race Session 1 and/or Session 2     (ages 8 - 15)

    Session 1 June 26 - July 21, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

    Session 2 July 24 - August 18, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

    Intermediate to Advanced Level - Students will work on more advanced boat handling techniques, including roll tacks and jibes, and will be introduced to more racing tactics, strategies and techniques.   Sailors will learn what it takes to progress to the next level of Opti racing and will be expected to compete in local Opti regattas where Red, White and Blue fleets are formed by age.   Having your own racing level Opti is an advantage at this stage and students are encouraged to bring their own boats.   All students will   be under the supervision of our race coach in class and at specific local regattas.   Last summer we supported and coached our sailors in 7 local day-long Opti regattas and expect to support about the same number of events this year.   Regatta fees are not included.

  • Hartley 12 Level 2 (ages 10-16)

    Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm         $285/week

    June 26-30, July 3-7*, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, July 31-August 4, August 7-11, August 14-18, August 21-25

    Pre-requisites, Level 2: Hartley 12 Level 1

    Beginner Level -Take the next step in the sport of sailing with this Hartley level 2 class.   A perfect continuation from the Hartley level 1 class or a great fit for those who want to work on their basic sailing techniques.   The Hartley 12 is fast to rig and easy to sail meaning more time on the water practicing and refining your sailing skills.

  • Just for Teens: 420s & Keelboats  (ages 13-16)

    Monday – Friday, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm           $285/week

    June 26-30, July 10-14, July 24-28, August 7-11, August 21-25

    NEW COMBO CLASS!!!! This class is designed for students who want to learn  about sailing more technical boats. More advanced sailing concepts will be taught as students take the next step in the sport of sailing.    Spinaker work, using a trapeze and local navigation will all be taught during this week long class.     The club 420, Sonar and J-105 will be the primary boats for this fun class.
  • 420 Racing Program Session 1 & Session 2 (ages 12-17)

    Pre-requisites: Opti Racing, Opti Green Fleet, and/or Instructor recommendation; minimum sailor weight 90 pounds, minimum 200 pounds total crew
    Intermediate Level - Come learn what it takes to be successful in fleet and team racing (the fun and challenging form of sailing as a team sport). Our experienced race coaches will challenge students to perfect their boat handling techniques, with the skipper and crew developing and refining coordination and mutual reliance. Students will work on improving and refining their boat-handling skills and developing together as a two-person team.   Students will be challenged to perfect their upwind and downwind sailing techniques and will learn to better use hiking straps, tiller extensions, and sail controls and will develop their spinnaker and trapeze skills.   Students will expand their knowledge of wind, weather, and tides, and will work on basic racing techniques and rules. Students will be encouraged to compete in the many local 420 regattas that we tow boats to by water.   All students will be under the supervision of our race coaches in class and at local regattas.   In addition to fleet racing, coaches will teach the techniques, tactics and rules of team racing through practice drills and a practice-race format.   The top students from this class will represent NESS in the ECSA All-Star Regatta, a college sailing formatted event hosted each year at the Coast Guard Academy in their fleets of Collegiate 420’s and FJ’s.   This class will also participate in the popular and fun ECSA team racing series.     All students will be under the supervision of our experienced race coaches in class and at both fleet and team racing regattas.
  • Windsurf & SUP (ages 10-16)

    Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm        $285/week

    June 26-30, July 3-7*, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, July 31-August 4, August 7-11, August 14-18, August 21-25

    Pre-requisites: none, but must enjoy swimming

    Beginner Level - This program is designed to teach the basics of windsurfing including, proper stance, self-rescue, tacking and gybing as well as some basic sail theory.     NEW this year we are adding SUP-ing as an element to this class to help work on balance and strength . Taught on our Bic Techno 293 boards this is a great way to learn a new sport.

  • Opti Racing (Ages 8-13)

    Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm         May 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30

    Enrollment: minimum 4 students

    Cost: $155      

    Eager to get back on the water?  The Opti Afterschool Racing class  will focus on racing techniques, boathandling, boat speed and specific boat setup.   Speed and proper technique will be a central part of the daily topics.   If you want to get a jump start on the summer season then this is the perfect opportunity for you..

    Sea Tech (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Use underwater cameras, remote operated vehicles (ROVs), and microscopes to accomplish a series of tech challenges.  Create an ROV, use the NESS bait cam and underwater cameras to see what is lurking below, and take closer looks at a variety of natural objects using microscopes.  Use your technological findings to assist in potential increased fishing productivity while getting a taste of fishing.  Includes: ROVs, fishing, microscopes, boat trips, & snorkel adventures

    Little Technauts (AM Session, 9 am - 12 pm)

    Drive a remote operated vehicle (ROV), operate microscopes to discover the tiny world of plankton, manipulate iPads to compare your body to a Killer Whale, and try out document cameras for closer inspection of corals, fish skeletons, and crab claws. Complete a new and fun technology challenge each day to increase your Tech-naut skills!

    Create new inventions while gaining inspiration from nature and technology.  Work in teams to design and test a remote operated vehicle (ROV) designed for a specific job, enterprise new product ideas using the field of biomimicry, analyze global solutions to apply to local issues, and experiment with green technology.  Includes: engineering, microscopes, boat trips, & snorkel adventures
