Congratulations go to NESS’s Sailing Program Director Mark Zagol for placing 7th out of 49 in the 2016 505 North American Championships on June 1-5!

Mark has gone to the 505 North American Championships four times and won them in 2013. About this year's racing, Mark said:

"Despite being disappointed in just missing out of the top 5 for the second year in a row, Drew and I are encouraged by the way we were constantly battling at the top of the fleet. At the top level in major championships the slightest mistake can cost you a few places and we made just a few more than the teams in front of us. Our focus recently has been on our downwind speed and we have made some rigging adjustments to our boat to help with that and it has paid off. We have our sights set for the NA's again next year leading up to the World Championships in September 2017 in Annapolis MD. I would like to thank the entire NESS team for allowing us this opportunity to compete during our busy season."

Last year, Mark was awarded US Sailing’s Outstanding Program Director award for his notable contribution to promote public access in the development and organization of a sailing program. In 2013, he was also part of the team at NESS that accepted US Sailing’s Outstanding Community Sailing Program Award, given to recognize NESS’s contributions and outreach to the community as well as program excellence. As we prepare to unveil NESS’s new Sailing Center on Wednesday, June 15, and position NESS as a resource for sailors of all ages and abilities, we couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and dedication that Mark has given to NESS.
