  • Snorkeling: Jump into the ocean world by safely snorkeling the waters of Fishers Island Sound while having fun and learning about marine life!
  • NESS Ocean University: If you like being in the water and riding on waves, then this is the class for you!
  • Adult Surfing: YES, it’s back! Adult Surfing classes – come and enjoy yourself in the cool, clear, rolling waters of coastal Rhode Island.
  • Body, Balance & Mind: Be introduced to an incredible sport that will keep you fit, focused and balanced!
  • Adult Learn to Sail: Designed to build strong foundational sailing skills, this course is appropriate for beginner and intermediate sailors who want a refresher course.
  • Adult Intermediate Sailing: Build upon your sailing skills and find other people who share a passion for getting out on the water.
  • Adult Beyond Intermediate Sailing: If you have taken our intermediate class and are looking to further your skills then this is the class for you.


All students must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.

  • Nightlife on the Dock: Using NESS’s underwater dock lights we will observe all the different types of animals that are most active at night.
  • Forests, Marshes & Fishes, Oh My!: Join NESS at Barn Island for a fall family program to learn about our local forests, marshes and fish!
  • Family Snorkeling: A NESS instructor will guide you through the basics of snorkeling, and will transport you to remote snorkeling locations by boat.
  • Squid Fishing: The temperatures have dropped and the squid are in. Come see what it's all about in this 2 hour guided program with NESS pro staff fisherman Caleb.
  • SUP-Yak: Learn how to safely stand up paddle board and kayaking with your family!
  • Plankton, Plankton, Everywhere!: Every wonder why the water in Long Island Sound is green, while the water in tropical waters is blue?.
  • Spooky Monsters of the Deep: Come and learn the spookiNESS that is deep sea animals.
  • Family Geocaching: Explore the fun hobby of geocaching!
  • Animals Do What to Survive?: Animals need to do a lot to survive the harsh environment they live in but what specifically do marine animals need to do?
  • Marine Science Ornament Art:Bring summer indoors with ornaments and decorations made with shells and other marine artifacts found on the beach. Discover what animal each shell came from, how sea glass is formed and how to tie decorative
